Hi, my name is Kate Meyjes. I am 18 years old and currently a freshman at the University of California, Berkeley. I was diagnosed with scoliosis in 2014 and I underwent spinal tethering surgery in December of 2021. As of March 2022, I am fully recovered.
During high school I worked for my school magazine and was a member of the swim and water polo teams.
My social life is very important to me- I enjoy going out with my friends on weekends, going to my schools sporting events, and making new friends from all around the country.
Scoliosis had never been a prevalent part of my life until my surgery. I was lucky enough to only experience minor aches and pains. I wore a night time back brace for about a year and tried pilates, yoga, and going to a chiropractor for my pain. I hope that anyone who is confused or concerned finds comfort in my entries.
